Seeds Tumble As El Torky Triumphs In Hong Kong

Egyptian teenager Heba El Torky progressed two rounds beyond her seeding in the inaugural Women’s Homebase Media Open before taking out the favourite to win the $8,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at the Hong Kong Sports Institute in Hong Kong.

The fifth seed made her breakthrough in the quarter-finals with a four-game win over Chinatsu Matsui, the fourth seed from Japan – then despatched local contender Joey Chan, the second seed, in the semis to make the final.

Here the 19-year-old from Alexandria faced Hong Kong’s experienced Rebecca Chiu – but El Torky battled for four games to defeat the top seed 11-8, 1-11, 11-4, 13-11 to win the title.

It was a notable hat-trick for the up-and-coming Egyptian who has now secured three WISPA Tour titles from three final appearances.
