The 12th WSF Refereeing Conference
Days Inn Hotel & Suites, Amman
October 4-5, 2013
The 12th WSF Refereeing Conference was held on October 4-5 with the help of the Jordanian Squash Federation and its President, Dr. Ramzi Tabbalat. The Co-Conveners were Dr. Rod Symington (Canada), Director, WSF Referees’ Committee, and Munir Shah (Singapore), Asian Director of Referees. They were joined as presenters by Chris Sinclair (Australia), WSF Referee and Senior Assessor.
The theme of the Conference was “The Next Step: Becoming an Elite Referee”, and the Conference was specifically aimed at those referees who are currently at the National or Regional level and who want to rise to become WSF Referees.
The Conference was attended by 21 referees from a wide range of countries: from Brazil to Nigeria, and from Spain to Kuwait. Several referees from the Jordanian Squash Federation were also in attendance.
The programme of the Conference covered a variety of topics that were intended to educate referees in, for example, how to control conduct on court, keeping the play flowing, and dealing with injuries and bleeding, as well as the general principles of being an elite referee and using the Three-Referee System. The new Rules that will come into effect on January 1, 2014 were also explained.
The Conference was also attended by Vice-President, Mohammed El-Menshawy (Egypt) of the World Squash Federation who formally opened and closed the Conference on behalf of the WSF.
